Music in Frankfurt

Music is a prominent feature on Frankfurt's cultural scene. The internationally renowned Ensemble Modern, and the composer Heiner Goebbels have close ties with the city, as does great jazz or the electronic music scene represented by Sven Väth, one of the world’s most popular DJs and techno producers.

Spectacular productions by the multiple award-winning Oper Frankfurt, outstanding concert series featuring the world’s greatest orchestras and soloists at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the famous annual „Deutsche Jazz Festival Frankfurt“ and concerts by international rock and pop stars at the Festhalle or Batschkapp, these are just some examples of the wide range of great music events in Frankfurt am Main.

Two outstanding symphony orchestras, the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, are based in Frankfurt. The Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst [Academy of Music and the Performing Arts],  Dr. Hoch's Konservatorium, the Musikschule Frankfurt and the Frankfurter Musikwerkstatt für Jazz und Popularmusik [Frankfurt Jazz and Popular Music Workshop] are just some examples of the many ways to study music in Frankfurt.

The Frankfurt-based broadcasting station Hessische Rundfunk with its sophisticated music programmes and productions and the local radio station radio x with its special broadcasts featuring the regional music scene greatly contribute to the outstanding quality of music in Frankfurt. Not least, the Internationale Musikmesse Frankfurt [International Music Fair], the largest of its kind worldwide, and numerous other companies and institutions involved in the production, presentation and promotion of music prove that music in this city is significant also economically.
